"Certificate of Use and Occupancy Permit"
December 22, 2008, was a day of celebration for the DCCMF and the Blue
Hens for Christ.
We completed all of the compliance requirements set
out for us by the city of Newark. In order to accomplish these things it was
necessary to hire an architect conversant with city and state building codes
in order to present documentation for approval by the city. We also had to
contract with a civil engineering firm to design the parking lot and storm
water management system and surveyors for documentation. Also a contractor
for construction and subcontracts. Altogether this included the following:
Outside:
filled in an unusable swimming pool; razed a concrete block
garage; provided a paved parking area; built a storm water management
filtration system with a biofiltration strip; built a fence around the
property; added a new ADA access door entryway; an ADA ramp to the house; a
new covered steel stairway with a new entrance door and window to our second
floor rental property; and repaired the front porch and added hand rails.
Inside:
installed a fire sprinkler system throughout the
building; built a partition between the upstairs and downstairs with fire
retardant wall board; built two ADA restrooms; built a new hallway access
from front to rear of the house; and in the second floor apartment installed
a small kitchen with appliances and new laundry facilities.
In
addition to the above a generous benefactor with a heart for campus ministry
took on the financial responsibility to help us replace the deteriorating
windows in Matts office with new vinyl replacement windows and screens. And
provide all new carpeting and installed it throughout the house.
Another donor gave us a new gas range, microwave, dishwasher, and
refrigerator to enhance our kitchen and the ability to provide meals for the
dinner and devotional for 50 plus students on Tuesdays.
We have a small coffee shop area with free coffee, tea, or cocoa and
snacks. Our students take advantage of that during the day.
We have
set up a lounge area with a 60 inch TV and comfortable sofa and chairs to
relax and watch TV or play games.
There is a small room for personal
study, or a small group study.
The basement was converted by the
students to become a playroom for hockey, ping pong, and games. We also have
a refrigerator with drinks and snacks.
